H.O.P.E.  Means  T.L.C.

H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People in Emergencies)  pairs volunteer drivers with parishioners needing transportation to appointments.

That's the thrust of this ministry.

But along for the ride is a healthy dose of T.L.C. (Tender Loving Care), demonstrated by the driver's listening to a passenger's concerns in the course of their miles-long conversation.

Sometimes that one-on-one contact is the only one the passenger has that day; he or she may not feel well, may have busy or far-away families, may still be mourning the death of a spouse, says the H.O.P.E. coordinator. Sometimes the chief problem is temporary loss of mobility and ability to be in the driver's seat.

The service is free; volunteers donate their time and car expenses.
Appointments are made via a rotating calling system.
New drivers are always being recruited.
